Lillie Walker, Class of 2023

When Lillie Walker started at GVGS in 2018 she hit the ground running with her passion for Music and Performing Arts.

Having been involved in almost every School Production and Eisteddfod ensemble held in the six years she鈥檚 been at GVGS, as well as receiving the Musical Performance Award the last three years in a row, Lillie鈥檚 dedication to her craft is obvious.

鈥淚鈥檝e had singing lessons the whole time I鈥檝e been in high school and I played piano up until the end of Year 11,鈥 she says. 鈥淚 love singing, it鈥檚 something I really enjoy and it feels good to make other people happy.鈥

This year, Lillie was one of three Music Prefects and played Wednesday in the School鈥檚 Senior Production of The Addams Family.

鈥淚 loved being a Music Prefect, it鈥檚 quite a demanding job, hosting school concerts, being MC at events and organising other school music events throughout the year, but it is a senior leadership position I鈥檝e always wanted, so I make the most of every minute,鈥 she says. 鈥淏ecause of COVID-19, Productions have been scaled back these past few years, so that makes it extra special to have a leading role for my final year and in our first full-scale Production since the pandemic began.鈥

Throughout her time at GVGS, the wide range of extra-curricular activities on offer have always been something Lillie has taken a keen interest in.

鈥淵ou can find me in the music centre most days because that鈥檚 where I like to be, either practicing or taking lessons. I also really enjoy playing sport, I鈥檝e played netball, badminton and soccer over the years,鈥 she says. 鈥淚 get so much encouragement from the people around me, both students and teachers, to do what I want to do. I feel like I have a lot of opportunities to have a go and try out new things.鈥

In 2024, Lillie plans on taking a break from studying to focus on her singing. She intends to increase her involvement with the local Dhungala Children鈥檚 Choir and is looking forward to taking on a mentor role for the younger choir members.

鈥淎fter a lot of thought, I鈥檝e decided I鈥檓 going to have a gap year after I finish school,鈥 she says. 鈥淔or the longest time I was set on going straight on and studying music or singing, but I feel ready for a break before the next chapter of my life. I鈥檓 going to see where my singing takes me and make the most of every opportunity.鈥
